Information:
TWO-WRENCH SQUEEZE METHOD2. Remove the injection nozzle clamp (2).3. Lift the injection nozzle (3) out of the cylinder head.
Pull nozzle straight out, by hand, to remove. Slight twisting action is permissible if necessary. Never attempt to pry out a nozzle with a screwdriver or other similar tool.
INJECTION NOZZLE REMOVAL (Left side illustrated)
1. Lines (eight, four each side). 2. Clamps (eight, four each side). 3. Injection nozzles (eight, four each side).4. Use needle-nose pliers to remove carbon seal dam (5). Always install a new compression seal (4) and carbon seal dam (5) before installing injection nozzle.
REMOVING CARBON SEAL DAM
4. Compression seal. 5. Carbon seal dam.Install Fuel Injection Nozzles
1. Be sure the bore in the cylinder head, fuel inlet fittings and the gasket surfaces are clean. Dirt or burrs on gasket surfaces can cause body distortion, resulting in a sticking valve.
Never install an injection nozzle that has been dropped, without first testing it with the 8S2242 Nozzle Tester Group. The injector tips are very hard and brittle and break easily.
2. Install a new compression seal and carbon seal dam. Use carbon seal dam installation tool (6) to install the carbon seal dam.
INSTALLING CARBON SEAL DAM
6. 8S2252 Carbon Seal Dam Installation Tool. Install a new grommet (7) before reinstalling an injection nozzle.3. Lubricate the exterior surface of cap (8). Pull grommet (7) over cap (8) in the direction indicated by the arrows.4. The shaded area shows grommet (7) correctly installed: Rotate grommet (7) so the flat surface will face the valve cover when nozzle is installed into cylinder head.
INJECTION NOZZLE
7. Grommet. 8. Protective cap. 9. Protective cap. A. Groove in grommet. Groove (A) to be installed in the half-moon cut-out provided in the valve cover mounting pad of the cylinder head.5. Coat groove (A) of grommet (7) with 7M7260 Liquid Gasket. Remove caps (8) and (9) and install nozzle (3) into cylinder head using a twisting motion. Do not use lubricant in the cylinder head bore or on the nozzle body.
Do not bend the injector inlet connection when installing injector into cylinder head. Bending of the inlet connection creates tension on the injector and causes binding of the needle in the guide.
INSTALLING NOZZLE
2. Clamps (eight, four each side). 3. Injection nozzles (eight, four each side).6. Assemble and tighten clamp (2) to hold nozzle (3) in place. Connect fuel lines to nozzle (3) and hand tighten connector nuts.7. Install rocker arm assembly. Install retaining bolts and locks. Tighten bolts to 18 5 lb. ft. (2.5 0.7 mkg) and bend locks. Install fuel return manifold.8. Adjust the intake valve clearance to .015 in. (0.38 mm) and the exhaust valve clearance to .025 in. (0.64 mm).9. Install valve cover. Install mounting bolts and tighten to 120 24 lb. in. (138 28 cm.kg).10. Purge fuel lines of air by motoring the engine until fuel, free of air, flows from the connections.11. Tighten the fuel line connections using the one-hand, two-wrench squeeze method as illustrated.
TWO-WRENCH SQUEEZE METHOD12. Start the engine and correct
