No repair or service is possible on an oil filter. Install a new oil filter.Installation
IMPORTANT: Be sure gasket is seated properly in base of filter.Put a thin coat of clean engine oil on gasket. IMPORTANT: Do not over tighten filter.Turn oil filter clockwise on oil filter nipple until the gasket just touches the mounting base. Turn the oil filter 1/2 to 3/4 turns clockwise by hand.Oil Filter Nipple

Remove oil filter (Group 0407).Remove oil cooler, if equipped, (Group 0419).

Turn the oil filter nipple clockwise into the oil filter adapter. Tighten oil filter nipple securely.Install oil filter (Group 0407).Oil Pan
Removal
Drain engine oil.

Inspect oil pan for cracks and dents. Repair or replace damaged oil pan.Installation
Using a new gasket, put oil pan in position on cylinder block. Install cap screws through oil pan into cylinder block.Tighten oil pan cap screws to 35 lb-ft (47 N m) (5 kg-m).Fill engine with proper oil to proper level.Oil Bypass Valve

Removal
Remove timing gear cover and front plate (Group 0402).

Inspect oil bypass valve for damage. Install a new valve if there is damage.Use D-01168AA Spring Compression Testor to check oil bypass valve spring. Spring length must be 1.34 in. (34 mm) when compressed with 23 2.3 lb. force (101 10 N). If length is not correct, install a new spring.Installation
Install bypass valve and spring (Fig. 6A).Install front plate, timing gear train, and timing gear cover (Group 0402).Oil Pressure Control Valve
